The compression spring (Part No. B6-05-086, also B7-09-014) creates a defined preload in the shift or steering mechanism of the BMW 600 and ensures a backlash-free fit as well as clear detent points. As part of a restoration, fatigued or corroded springs should be replaced to prevent imprecise shifting and rattling noises. This allows the vehicle’s original handling feel to be restored in a technically correct manner.
