The second-gear gear, part no. 2-071, handles torque transmission in the BMW Isetta transmission at the intermediate ratio between first and second gear. During restoration, chipped teeth, pitting, or significantly worn tooth flanks should not be tolerated, as they lead to whining noises and increased wear. A new gear restores the correct tooth flank clearance and the typical smoothness of second gear in the Isetta transmission.
