This oil strainer (Part No. 1-180) for the BMW Isetta engine is mounted on the oil pump and keeps coarse contaminants out of the lubrication system to protect bearings and sliding surfaces. During engine restoration, the used strainer should be thoroughly cleaned, inspected for cracks, corrosion, and clogged mesh, and replaced if necessary. A tight and tension-free installation is important to prevent cavitation and insufficient lubrication in the restored Isetta engine.
