The pump piston for the accelerator pump (Part No. 1-1499) ensures that, in the BMW Isetta carburetor, an additional surge of fuel is delivered to the intake tract when the throttle is opened, allowing the engine to accelerate smoothly. During a carburetor overhaul or restoration, a worn or stiff piston should be replaced with this new part to prevent jerking and loss of power during acceleration.
