Der Zylinder SM-055 für den 250 ccm BMW Isetta Standard-Motor stellt den Arbeitsraum für den Kolben bereit und ist entscheidend für Kompression, Leistung und thermische Stabilität des Motors. Aufgrund des Alters sind diese Zylinder meist überholungsbedürftig (Honen, Schleifen oder neue Laufbuchse), um Verschleiß, Riefen und Kompressionsverlust zu beseitigen. Für eine fachgerechte Restauration sollten Maßhaltigkeit, Zustand der Kühlrippen und Dichtflächen sowie eventuell fehlende Stößelrohre sorgfältig geprüft werden.
