The 3rd gear gear (part number 2-99977, reference 2-053) handles the gear ratio for third gear in the BMW Isetta transmission and is therefore responsible for the frequently used driving range between acceleration and cruising speed. During a transmission overhaul, this used part can serve as a sample or, to a limited extent, as a replacement; however, due to typical signs of wear on the gear teeth, it should be carefully inspected before being permanently installed in a restored classic car.
