The valve seat ring for the 39.4 mm exhaust valve (Part No. B7-02-04594) forms the high-stress sealing surface on the exhaust side of the BMW 600 and is primarily responsible for compression and heat dissipation of the exhaust valve. During an engine overhaul, burnt or damaged seat rings should be systematically replaced and then precisely machined and lapped in with the valve. This reliably prevents valve overheating, loss of compression, and consequential damage to the classic car engine.
